An interactive community education event featuring speakers on flora and fauna, music, food an artwork raffle and more.

Venue: Old Church Gallery, 35 Lineville Rd, Moore

Schedule of events:


11am - meet videographer Bob Simpson to set up recording.

11.30 - meet Solitary Bee speakers Lisa and Rosie to set up bee hotel display.

12.00 - Lunch at gallery cafe with attendees. Musicians. Carolita M.C-ing.

1pm - Jono Hooper Queensland Frog Society president.

1.30pm - Native Solitary bee speakers from Valley of the Lakes gardening group.

2pm - Lockyer Uplands Catchment Inc. president, Diane Guthrie speaking on Koalas,

Glossy Black cockatoos, LUCI group activities.

2.30pm - Wildlife carer, Kerrie Turner speaking on forest pollinators, bats, flying foxes.

3pm - Artwork raffle drawn

3.20pm - Native tree giveaway

3.30 - Group discussions. Community solutions. Action plan. Social networking.

4pm - Finish


Tree/shrub species list (donated by Somerset Regional Council):


Black She-oak (Allocasuarina Litoralis)

Evergreen, fast-growing tree up to 10m tall/ 4m wide

Male has showy red bottle-brush flowers up to 25cm long in Spring.

Female has small spikes cones, which cockatoos feed on.


Black Ti-tree (Melaleuca brachteata)

Grows to 15m near water sources

White bottle-brush flowers Winter to Summer.

Provides insects/birds with nectar.


Brisbane Wattle (Acacia Fimbriata)

Grows to 5 metres near water sources

Perfumed yellow ball flowers in Winter/Spring


Paperbark Ti-tree (Melaleuca quinquenervia)

also known as Broad-leafed paperbark

Grows to 20m tall near water source

White bottle-brush flowers late Spring to Autumn.


Qld Blue Gum (Eucalyptus teretecornis)

Also known as Forest Red Gum

Grows up to 45m

Koala food tree.
